Chris Allen started this charity as a result of her being diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2004; in November 2004 she was also diagnosed with oral cancer. She had her 6 monthly dental check up, 2 months early, to avoid her having it during the time she underwent her mastectomies, it was then her dentist spotted the cancer signs.
Oral cancer is rare very few are prepared to publicise it. Many are left with severe facial distortions, thus why they do not want to come forward. Had her dentist Guy Wilson not been so thorough in looking for the signs and recomending her to such an excellent maxillo-facial specialist, Paul Johnson - who is also a plastic surgeon, there is a chance that she may not have been around to try and raise funds to help fight this horrid disease.
We cannot stress enough the importance of having your 6 monthly check up, not only to avoid dental problems but to also have your mouth and gums checked.
On the subject of thoroughness - we must mention Ian Laidlaw, he did an excellent job on Chris's mastectomies and reconstructions etc.. Details of both consultants can be provided by contacting us at the charity.
We ask you to help us help others by donating to the charity please, 100% of our donations go to helping fight the disease. The charity is sponsored by Chris Allen Consultancy, a Human Resources and Support Staff Specialist, it pays all the administration and running costs, therefore assuring you that 100% of all donations goes to the cause.
